Understanding how populations are distributed and how they are changing is crucial in public planning and policy development, in natural resource management, in marketing and business planning, and in many areas of social science.
The Geography 420 Seminar at Middlebury College, taught by Jonathan Schroeder, surveys advanced methods of spatial data analysis and visualization, examining how such methods can be used to explore trends and patterns in population data. Each student in the seminar prepares a geographic time-series dataset, designs analyses, produces visualizations, and presents findings through a series of web pages, accessible through the drop-down menus above.
