Visualizing Growth and Trends of Hispanic Populations
in the Los Angeles Urban Area from 1960 to 2000

Jessica Lehner - Spring 2009

This animation of the entire five-county extent shows that the increase in percent Hispanic population spreads throughout the area, and is not relegated only to the defined urban area boundaries.  Nevertheless, the urban area clearly experiences significant increases and many clusters of over 75% Hispanic populations

This second animation shows the same increase in percent Hispanic population over the same time period within the defined Los Angeles urban area.  With this focus, clusters of primarily Hispanic communities and populations are highly visible and can be observed growing from year to year.

Be sure to pause the video in order to notice different trends and movements of these highly Hispanic communities.
