Gentrifying Neighborhoods in Major U.S. Cities

Billie Borden - Spring 2009

Atlanta has one tract in its urban core in the “Racialized gentrification” cluster, with several others nearby tracts mostly in the “Moderate gentrification” cluster. The population trends in these clusters also characterize several larger tracts further away from the center of the city. Most notably, there are a large number of tracts that experienced a large increase in % Black from 1980 to 2000 circling the southern half of the core.
