Gentrifying Neighborhoods in Major U.S. Cities

Billie Borden - Spring 2009

Chicago has many tracts in the downtown area that are included in the gentrification-related clusters. As seen in many other cities, several clusters in the suburban area around Chicago are also included in these clusters. In contrast to the gentrification trend observed, there are also many tracts classified by the “Least growth in per capita income” cluster around the edges of the core. Several groups of tracts characterized by growth in the black population are also evident.
