The Face of Population Change in Boston, 1960 - 2000

Conclusion

Taken together, these visualizations provide interesting information about trends in the White population, college graduate population, population age 25-44, and overall population change that can inform planning and policy decisions, and improve our understanding of demographic change in Boston from 1960 to 2000.  The young college-educated population changed in a way that starkly contrasted White population as well as overall population, which suggests that this demographic is drawn to something about dense urban cores that does not attract the rest of the population.  The nuances of these growth rates are captured in this series of maps and can identify distinctions even with the population subsets examined in this study.
