The Face of Population Change in Boston, 1960 - 2000

Leah Skahen - Spring 2009

Next, to visualize the spatial distribution of the changes through time that I observed in the trend maps, I created an animation of choropleth maps (refresh the page to watch it again).  This shows percent college graduates from 1960 to 2000.  In 1960, percentages were extremely low across the board.  Throughout time, the college-educated population increased and expanded from the western border of the city over time.  The highest concentrations are consistently found surrounding universities like Harvard, MIT, BU, and BC.
