The Face of Population Change in Boston, 1960 - 2000

Leah Skahen - Spring 2009

Because Hispanic variables were only recently introduced into the Census, and as a separate category from race, it is possible that the purple trend showing unexpected increase in percent White can be attributed to Hispanics who identify as White.  This map shows percent change in White Hispanic population.  The green shows growth, which in some cases corresponds to places with positive trends in percent White in the previous figure, but not universally.  Increase in White Hispanic population may partially be guiding increase in total White population but it cannot explain it entirely.
